Counseling, Partnership and Capacity Building
Helping other organizations succeed
The complexity and rapidly changing nature of public-health challenges requires organizations to constantly adapt their core competencies –most importantly to the specific priorities of vulnerable and underserved populations. For example, the rise in multicultural communities presents an additional challenge for organizations that seek to effectively work and communicate with community members as well as to address their key needs. Tapping into the human potential, energy and critical contribution of community members is increasingly a strategic imperative in improving public health outcomes. There is also an increasing need to periodically assess, evaluate and update organizational capacities, or to outsource specific projects to complement existing capacities. HEI and its partners provide expertise and resources to other non-profit health organizations, professional associations, foundations and other leading U.S. and international organizations in the fields of health equity, public health, and global health.
We take great pride in assisting other organizations and contributing our passion, experience, and dedication to their mission and long-term goals. We have significant U.S. and international experience in strategic health communication, nonprofit strategic planning, strategic partnership development and management, as well as applied research and evaluation. Since HEI is also a non-profit organization with its own programs and research efforts designed to improve the health of minority and underserved communities, we fully understand the importance of dedicated and cost-effective support and strive to devise sustainable and evidence-based solutions. We work with other organizations via institutional partnership agreements or consulting contracts. Our fees are designed on a scaling basis to meet the needs of the organizations we assist. We are also in the process of developing a membership package that will include access to special fees for core services and training workshops as well as securing funds to provide service-related and capacity building-specific scholarships to qualifying organizations. Please check our site at a later date for more information on these two programs.
While our staff and partners have full expertise in a variety of public health fields and areas, we have identified the following services as our primary focus because of their strategic relevance to supporting the mission and health equity goals of a variety of organizations.
- Strategic counseling and planning
- Health communication strategy and planning
- Program planning and evaluation
- Organizational assessment and capacity building (including ongoing mentoring and training)
- Training workshops, and interactive mini-courses (including online options)
- Partnership development and management, including community relations and public-private partnerships
In addition to our customized services, HEI and our partners also provide a comprehensive series of interactive workshops, one-week courses, and seminars that are specifically intended for staff and board members of non-profit health organizations, foundations, professional associations, and other professionals in the public health and health equity fields both in the U.S. and internationally. These events address topics in cross-cultural health communication, nonprofit strategic planning, strategic partnerships, and research and evaluation as they apply to the public health sector. Select disease- or health issue-specific workshops may also become available starting with our two initial special focus areas: (1) family health (including maternal and child health as well as child and adolescent health), and (2) public health emergencies (with particular reference to partnerships and capacity building on communication and social mobilization)
