by Paige Hammond on behalf of Health Equity Initiative’s Board of Directors Join us in observing National Minority Health Month by connecting with relevant HEI resources and exploring dedicated resources to mark this month! At Health Equity Initiative, we are advocates for improved health outcomes for each and every group of people. This work includes uplifting groups who have been historically marginalized and underserved. This year, the theme for National Minority Health Month is Better Health Through Better Understanding. This theme highlights the importance of promoting health equity through improved health literacy and language access and reduced health disparities, specifically in historically marginalized communities. As the month of April continues, please join Health Equity Initiative by committing to learning about what you can do to promote the health of minoritized groups, and raise awareness in your own communities. Begin this learning process by engaging with Health Equity Initiative's content on reducing health disparities.
Read HEI’s most recent blog post, “Belonging in the Clinical Setting”: This post discusses the history of inequities in the clinical setting as well as why belonging matters for patients, employees, and caregivers. Additionally, steps to take to ensure more inclusive, welcoming, and equitable clinical environments for all are discussed. Apply to participate in HEI’s Advocacy Training, which is taking place on May 17th, 2023 from 9am-11am EST: Health Equity Initiative is holding an interactive training webinar for community leaders and CBOs to strengthen advocacy and policy communication skills and increase the reach of community-driven solutions in policy and institutional settings in support of health equity. If interested, please visit the form for more details. Listen to the recording or download the reports and calls to action from our more recent Community Leaders Forums on topics such as Racial Healing and Health Equity or Youth Engagement and Health Equity.
